TheSkinVet E-Consultation Service

Veterinary dermatologists throughout the world receive an ever-increasing number of requests for advice on skin cases – in January 2023, I co-authored a paper on this subject: UK-based cross-sectional multi-centre study assessing advice request veterinary dermatologists received from general practitioners ( Click Here To Access ).  As these emails come complete with lengthy clinical histories, photographs & laboratory reports, you will appreciate how much time I have to invest in this part of my service, especially when the cases are often not ultimately referred. IN 2017, I started to provide formal telemedicine consultations.  I provide two tiers of E-consultations for my professional colleagues – both routine and extended E-consultations.

This service is for subscribing vets who wish to have the benefit of specialist advice and support on small animal dermatology cases, without seeking a formal referral.  Please note that in this situation the patient remains under your care, in accordance with RCVS Code of Professional Conduct (http://www.rcvs.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/code-of-professional-conduct-for-veterinary-surgeons)

I am happy to help with advice on difficult, unresponsive and/or recurrent dermatology cases. My twenty-two years in general practice and over twenty years of referral dermatology work on problematic skin disease is at your disposal to help you come to a diagnosis, advise on the treatment and management options for your patient.

Further benefit can be gained by emailing well-focused, high resolution (macroscopic) photos of the skin lesions and their distribution.

For a further cytology fee, microscopic images, simply taken on a smart phone, through the eyepiece lens of your microscope of RapiDiff®/ DiffQik®-stained Scotch™ tape strips, ear wax smears & impressions smears (high power,  oil immersion), will further improve the remote service I can provide.

For the Routine service I will liaise with the Vet only. If you have not used this quick and affordable service in the past, please contact me to discuss payment terms.

Remembering to send photos of the case as well as any cytology images that you wish me to assess too.

Partly in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020, I am now also offering an Extended e-consultation service, with the additional benefit that I will also be in touch with the client personally, by phone &/or email. They will also receive a report from me, as well as advice sheets & client detailers. The same form below needs to be completed for this service and the client completes the downloadable form available on this web page (as per a routine face-to-face consultation): http://www.theskinvet.net/clients/appointment-card/

Also please take time to read the disclaimer that I have had to add to the E-consultation form, & my email signature, after consultation with The Veterinary Defence Society & Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

In addition, the client must agree to the the transfer of their personal information as per the RCVS general data protection guidelines (March 2018).

If you would prefer me to take full charge of the case, please read the Referral Protocol section: http://www.theskinvet.net/veterinary-surgeons/referral-protocol/.
